Member Spotlight: Taylor Segrest

LAXCarShare Member, Taylor Segrest, was Writer/Co-Producer on this documentary. It just won Best Documentary at the Austin Film Festival.
Darwin is a documentary film about an isolated community at the end of a weathered road in Death Valley, California. Propelled from society by tragic turns, the people of Darwin (population 35) must now find ways to coexist in a place without a government, a church, jobs, or children. The near-ghost town’s survival depends on a fragile, gravity-fed waterline that descends from the mountains where top secret weapons are being tested. One “accidental” drop of a bomb, they half-joke, could wipe out their entire town.

Metro drops day pass to $5…

Beginning this July, the price of a Metro day pass will drop to $5. With gas prices expected to reach $6 per gallon, Metro hopes to gain new riders who will choose to leave their personal car at home, in favor of riding public transportation. This reduced rate will be in effect from July through the end of 2011.
Remember to check with your employer to find out about special commuter/ride-share benefits that they may offer. You can also use pre-tax dollars towards subsidizing your commute!

Los Angeles Traffic Congestion is Worst in Nation!!!

A recent study reminds us just how bad traffic and parking have become in the City of Los Angeles. Many cities are looking for ways to reduce VMT (Vehicle Miles Traveled) along with extending the existing rail lines, to accomodate more travelers. Car sharing is fast becoming a welcome extension of the transit/rail/biking networks. Do your “share” to reduce the number of cars on the road and consider joining a carshare and/or enrolling your business to increase participation in your employee sponsored programs!
