Who uses LAXCarShare?

LAXCarShare is a service that can be used by anyone that is interested in lowering their cost of automotive ownership,  reduce their carbon footprint, only needs a car for a short period of time, business needs, leisure,  a traveling workforce (i.e. appraiser, notary), or lives in densely populated metropolitan areas.

How does LAXCarShare work?

Members sign up for membership and agree to undergo the DMV screening process, required to rent the cars.  Upon approval, Members will receive a key fob that will allow them to easily access LAXCarShare locations whenever they have reserved a car.

Who is eligible to join?

Any individual who is: 21+ with a valid drivers license, been licensed for at least one year, has no major violations, moving violations and/or DUI’s within the last 5 years. Click here for more details.

What if I am under 21?

You will have to wait and apply once you reach 21 years of age.

How do I join?

Fill out our on-line application here.   The application fee is $10 and NON-REFUNDABLE, so please see our membership requirments before submitting your application. 

How long before I can drive?

In most cases, Members will be approved and have their fob mailed within (5) business days of applying. If you are required to submit additional information, your approval could take up to an additional 10-14 business days.  You can reserve the car once you receive your Member ID#. 
*expedited processing is available, to drive the same day, for an additonal $10 fee

How do I reserve the car?

To reserve a car, Members can either go online or call (877) 552-9227 x1.  We also have a mobile browser that can be added to any smartphone device (currently Droid, BlackBerry and iPhone compatible) by clicking on “mobile site” on our homepage and adding to your home screen.  Members then choose the date(s) and time(s) desired for the reservation. 

What is the total cost to joinLAXCarShare?

Membership is currently $25 to and there is a $10 application fee. Membership is renewed annually at a rate of $15.  

What are the rates on the cars?

$7 (Monday through Friday at 5pm)
$8 (Friday at 5pm through Sunday at 11:59pm)

$60/daily seven days a week

(gas, insurance, roadside assistance and 180 miles are included per day; excess miles are billed @ $0.45 each mile)

How do I get in and use the car?

You will receive a fob in the mail which you can place on your personal keyring. 

How am I billed?

All Members are billed an estimate trip cost, AT THE TIME THE RESERVATION IS MADE, to the debit/credit card on file.  You may update your debit/credit card at any time. LAXCarShare charges you an ESTIMATE of what your reservation will cost. Any overages will be billed at the end of your actual reservation. You are allowed to cancel/change your reservation at NO CHARGE up until 3 HOURS BEFORE your reservation begins.   Once you release, the amount is credited back on your LAXCarShare account and can be used towards future use of the car.  Should you cancel/change your reservation after the allotted time, you will still be billed for your entire reservation. 

What if I do not have either a debit or credit card?

You can use a prepaid visa card or debit card and you will also be required to pay a $150 deposit to cover additional fees that may be applied to your account.

How far in advance can I reserve the car?

You can reserve up to 6 months in advance, keep in mind you will be billed at the time you make your reservation, not when you actually drive. Be sure you reserve the car accordingly.

Does the car come with baby seats, roof racks, snow chains, pet carriers, etc?

NO!

How do I get gas?

Each vehicle is equipped with a fuel card inside. At the time you receive your membership materials, you  will be assigned an identification number that must be entered at the time of fuel purchase.  You will be asked to enter the car’s mileage and your member ID#.  YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED ONE TRANSACTION PER DAY.  EXCESSIVE TRANSACTIONS WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE TERMINATION OF YOUR ACCOUNT.  In the event you are purchasing fuel at a non network fuel provider, OR you use your own funds, you may mail us your receipt, include your member number on the receipt, and mail to 309 E. Hillcrest Bl. #406, Inglewood, CA 90301, and you will receive a credit on your account up to a maximum of $20.

What if a car is parked in the parking space when I return the car?

Park in the space nearest to where the car should be parked. DO NOT PARK IN HANDICAPPED!!! Contact the 24/7Call Center immediately, by calling 877-552-9227 and press option 0, to report where the car is parked so we can notify the next member.

What if I am late returning the car?

If you are late returning the car, and can NOT extend the reservation, contact us IMMEDIATELY at (877) 552-9227 and press option 0.  Failure to do so will result in: $1/minute late fee being applied to your account.  If you interrupt your fellow members reservation, and they cancel the reservation, you will be assessed an additional $25 fee.  Please keep in mind that there may be a reservation booked immediately following yours, so it is imperative you contact us so we can make arrangements for the next member. 

What is the reservation cancellation policy?

You must cancel your reservation at least 3 hours before your scheduled time to receive the full amount credited back to your LAXCarShare account. Since this is a community, canceling as soon as possible will allow another member to reserve that car. If you cancel with less notice, you will be billed for the time reserved less any time used by another member.

How does the Damage Deductible Waiver program work?

Members are given the option of taking the DDW at the time you make your reservation. The costs are an additional
 $1 per hour or $15 per day. The damage deductible waiver allows members to “opt-out” of being responsible for the amount of the deductible, should the car become damaged, during your reservation.

How much is the deductible?

The deductible is $1,000 per occurrence. Should you become involved in an accident and/or damage the car, and you have not taken the damage waiver deductible, your debit/credit card on file will be charged the full amount of $1,000. In the event this amount is not available, your account will be immediately suspended until we collect the deductible in full. Once we have collected the full amount, you will be able to continue making reservations. If your account is not in good standing within 60 days, your account will be terminated.

What if the car shows damage prior to me starting my reservation?

Please call 877-552-9227 and press option 0 in order to report the damage. You may still use the car once the damage has been reported and the car is operable. If the car is inoperable, we will do our best to move you to the next available car, if there is no car available, we will provide alternative transportation options which will be agreed upon with the member. If the Member chooses to not take the alternative transportation option, the Member will be refunded the amount of the reservation.

What if I am in an accident?

Take all of the parties’ information (Name, driver’s license, license plate and insurance information) and call the 24/7 Call Center IMMEDIATELY at 877-552-9227  and press option 0.

Can my pet ride in the car?

ONLY if your pet is in a pet carrier. There is a $250 cleaning fee assessed to the Member who does not have their pet secure in a carrier.

May I smoke in the car?

NEVER! There is a $250 fee if you are found to be smoking in the car. Please respect your fellow Members.

What if I get a ticket?

IT IS YOURS! You must pay within the time allotted. Should you fail to do so, the ticket amount and administrative fee of $40 will be charged to your account IMMEDIATELY upon our receiving notification. Your membership will be temporarily suspended until fees have been collected in full.  Please see the Member Manual for fees.

May I terminate my membership at any time?

Yes, you may do so at any time. Please keep in mind that should you decide to join again at a later date, you will be required to repeat the entire process and pay all applicable fees associated with becoming a new Member.  If you terminate AFTER you have used the service, you will NOT be refunded your membership fee.

Can LAXCarShare terminate my membership?

We most certainly can if you violate the terms of your Membership Agreement and/or the abuse of the gas card.  Please see our Member Manual for our termination policy.
